Egypt's Interior Minister, Mohammed Ibrahim
News reaching the desk of CEOAFRICA.com is that the country’s Interior Minister, Mohammed Ibrahim survived a bomb attack targeted at his convoy few hours ago.
It was gathered from sources that the blast which appeared to have been caused by a suicide car bomb was said to have injured more than 20 people.
The explosion, according to findings, took place at about 10:30 local time (08:30 GMT) few minutes after Mr Ibrahim left his home to be driven by convoy to work.
There were conflicting reports over the source of the explosion, with some reports saying an explosive device had been thrown from a nearby building and others saying a booby-trapped car had detonated.
While speaking on state Television shortly after the incident, the minister denounced the attack as a cowardly assassination bid.
"It destroyed four of the vehicles of my protection team, with many shops in the area badly affected, along with a vehicle of civilians and a small child who had a leg amputated. I have an officer with serious injuries and another officer with a leg amputation. There were many injuries amongst my guards," he said.
Although the source of the attack is yet unknown, many people fingered the Muslim Brotherhood with the attack, since Mr. Ibrahim heads the police force which has carried out crackdown on the movement, and also because Nasr City is a strong place of the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood group. But, the group had condemned, on a strong term, the attack on the minister.
