
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have retained their position at 36th in the latest FIFA women’s world ranking following their display at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they were crowned champions for a record-extending 10th time
The latest ranking was released on FIFA’s official website on Thursday, August 7.
While the Super Falcons remain the top team in Africa, WAFCON 2024 runners-up Morocco are third on the continent and have dropped to 64th in the world.
Former WAFCON champions Banyana Banyana of South Africa maintained their 54th position globally and are second in Africa. Ghana’s Black Queens, who finished in third place at the WAFCON, have dropped to 67th in the global ranking.
Cameroon and Ivory Coast dropped down to 66th and 71st places, respectively, having played no official matches during the period.
Mali, Algeria, and Senegal round out Africa’s top 10. Algeria and Senegal recorded notable gains, climbing by 14.79 and 12.6 points, respectively.
Botswana is Africa’s biggest mover, gaining 32.15 points and moving seven places up to 146th in the world after a run of three slim losses to Algeria, Nigeria, and Tunisia at the WAFCON.
Globally, Spain returned to the summit of the FIFA rankings following a dominant run to the final of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, overtaking the United States by a narrow margin. France climbed four places to sixth, while Brazil slipped to seventh despite retaining their South American title.
According to FIFA, a total of 196 international matches were played during the rankings window, contributing to the shifts seen across every confederation.
The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be released on December 11, 2025.
