The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) has announced an indefinite ban on “signing-out” celebrations by final-year students.

This was made public on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke.

According to the university, the decision became necessary following repeated cases of chaos, violence, and disruption linked to the activities.

“The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University wishes to inform all students that, with immediate effect, all forms of signing-off related to final examinations are banned on campus. This step was taken in response to recurring incidents of disorder and disruption associated with such events,” the statement partly read.

The university further expressed concern over the presence of unauthorised persons who often join students on campus during the celebrations, describing it as a security threat to both staff and students.

Okeke warned that any student caught engaging in the banned activity will face strict disciplinary actions, including possible rustication.

She also noted that outsiders who attempt to participate may be arrested and prosecuted for disorderly conduct.

Reassuring the campus community, the Registrar stressed that UNIZIK remains committed to providing a safe environment for learning and would not condone acts capable of undermining peace and order.

“All students are advised to focus on their academic responsibilities and promptly report any threats to safety or misconduct to the appropriate authorities,” the statement added.
