Themed "Transforming Care and Strengthening Communities," the significant event took place on June 19, 2025, bringing together healthcare professionals, advocates, and experts to share insights and discuss strategies aimed at improving the lives of individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Chinonso Fidelis Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, who highlighted crucial measures necessary to improve the care of Sickle Cell warriors. He advocated for early detection through universal newborn screening, the establishment of specialized clinics, and supportive workplace policies that offer flexible working conditions and paid medical leave.
“We need to ensure that those living with Sickle Cell Disease can thrive, not just survive,” Dr. Egemba stated, laying out essential action points that included expanding newborn testing, implementing education in school curricula, and advocating for insurance coverage that includes Sickle Cell care.
The webinar also featured a distinguished panel, which featured esteemed experts, including Dr. Temilade Ogunnaike-Quaye, who discussed the pathophysiology of Sickle Cell Disease and the critical need for a multidisciplinary approach to care. Pharm. Additionally, DTN Evelyn Akhigbe Omolegho spoke about the importance of nutrition and individualized care plans for sickle cell patients, while Pharmacist Abayomi Onasanya highlighted the role of dietary supplements in improving health outcomes for individuals with the disease.
The event culminated in a powerful "Call to Action," urging healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the community to unite in their efforts to enhance the living conditions of those affected by Sickle Cell Disease. Participants were encouraged to promote awareness, collaborate for comprehensive care, and prioritize nutrition in disease management.
The interactive Q&A session allowed participants to address their concerns on pain management, the potential for addiction to pain medication, and life quality improvement strategies for Sickle Cell warriors.
This engaging conclusion was marked by a reinforcement of the importance of continuous advocacy and the collective effort required to transform care for those living with Sickle Cell Disease.
