Pharm. Emmanuel Chidi Ezirim, President of the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas (NAPPSA), has called on its members to remain committed to their proven strategies while avoiding distractions that could undermine their gains.
He made this call on September 25, 2025 at the 19th Annual Conference & Exposition of the association. The event was hosted at Sheraton Suites O'Hare, Chicago under the theme "Harnessing Artificial Intelligence in Pharmaceutical Development and Healthcare Delivery."
In his address, Ezirim reflected on his early life in Nigeria, sharing tales that taught the importance of critical thinking and the pitfalls of pursuing quick success. He recounted the story of "Umunakwa," a metaphor for the elusive dream of instant success that many young individuals chase without understanding the foundational work required to achieve it.
“Such was said for many who sought to become overnight successes,” he noted, emphasizing the lessons learned from the journey and the need to stay the course in their professional pursuits.
President Ezirim then drew parallels between the challenges faced in Nigeria and those encountered in the Americas, particularly in the pharmacy profession. He highlighted the need for NAPPSA to continue following its strategic plan, a well-defined roadmap aimed at financial stability and long-term sustainability.
"Our 5K Fund-Race still holds sway as a strong revenue-generating system," he remarked, pointing out its past success during challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ezirim called on the members to be inspired by their collective achievements. “Together, we have overcome financial hardships, launched successful initiatives such as the NAPPSA Scholarship, and have established an endowment exceeding $800,000,” he said, expressing pride in their progress while acknowledging the work that still lies ahead.
As he urged unity and strategic action moving forward, Ezirim emphasized the importance of choosing wisely in their professional endeavors. “Will NAPPSA stand up and face the challenges of today squarely and courageously?” he asked, as he encouraged his colleagues to remain committed to the organization’s mission and to view their current endowment as a stepping stone toward greater achievements.
Ezirim also addressed the positive trajectory of the NAPPSA Official Journal, the American Journal of Pharmacotherapy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (AJPPS), affirming its recognition as a distinguished global peer-reviewed journal. He concluded his address by reminding members that the future of NAPPSA lies in their hands and urged them to keep their dreams and aspirations grounded in action and accountability.
The conference not only served as a platform for knowledge sharing but reinforced the essence of collaboration among pharmacy professionals dedicated to the betterment of healthcare and pharmaceutical practices. President Ezirim’s address resonated powerfully with attendees, leaving them motivated to embrace the challenges of the future with unity and determination.
