Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Nigerian Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, has called on young Africans to embrace ethical leadership and collective responsibility as the foundation for Africa’s sustainable transformation.

Obi made the call on Sunday, October 5, 2025, while speaking as a guest speaker at the first Ubuntu Africa Youth Assembly Webinar Series, organized by the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) under its Africa Renaissance Initiative. The hybrid event took place at the Global Peace Foundation headquarters in Washington, D.C., and was attended virtually by hundreds of young leaders from across the African continent.

During the interactive session, Obi engaged with participants who raised thought-provoking questions on ethical leadership, accountability, good governance, and youth participation in sustainable development and human flourishing.

“We can only build a better Africa when we apply the fundamental values of Ubuntu — caring for one another, living for others and our society, and dignifying our most valuable asset: the millions of young people across the continent,” Obi said.

Obi commended the Ubuntu Africa Youth Assembly for creating a continental platform where African youth and elders engage in ethical leadership formation and intergenerational dialogue, inspired by Ubuntu values. He noted that such engagements are essential for building moral authority and fostering collaboration toward a sustainable African future.

“The spirit of Ubuntu —I am because we are— reminds us that our individual success is tied to the well-being of others. It is through this shared humanity that we can achieve genuine transformation and lasting peace in Africa,” he added.

The Ubuntu Africa Youth Assembly aims to foster and strengthen ethical leadership among young Africans by empowering them to become valuable actors in African affairs, both now and in the future. It also seeks to promote collaboration between generations in addressing the continent’s most pressing challenges.

Obi’s address inspired participants to take ownership of Africa’s development journey and to see themselves as the driving force behind the continent’s renaissance.

“Africa’s future lies in the hands of its youth. If we lead with empathy, integrity, and accountability — guided by the values of Ubuntu — there is no limit to what we can achieve together,” he concluded.

Obi’s message at the Ubuntu Africa Youth Assembly aligns with his long-standing advocacy for good governance, transparency, and youth empowerment. Over the years, he has consistently emphasized the need for values-driven leadership and people-centered development, urging African nations to invest in education, innovation, and moral reorientation as pillars for continental progress.
