The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, said that President Bola Tinubu will ensure that judges of the FCT do not reside in a rented apartment.

Wike assured that before the end of Tinubu’s first tenure, judges would have their personal apartments in the FCT.

The minister gave the assurance while flaging-off the design and construction of residences for the Heads of Courts (President Court of Appeal, Federal High Court Chief Judge, Chief Judge of the FCT, Abuja and President Industrial Court.

According to Wike: “I consider today to be the most important, when we were appointed to be the minister of FCT, one of the things that Mr president said is that improving the welfare and enhancing the performance of judicial officers have been a problem, what do you think we can do to improve the performance of judicial officers, and with my experience as a former governor of a state?

“As an experienced former governor? I said to Mr President, one thing that your government must show differently is that you can’t afford to continue to see judges in rented houses.

“Sometimes they don’t know the landlords of these houses, sometimes you don’t know your neigbours, these judges preside over criminal and other serious matters indeed. of course, you never can tell what will happen.

“I challenge anybody that what is happening today has never happened in the history of this country as far as FCT is concerned and i want to thank the Attorney General, I’m not criticizing his predecessors but when somebody has done something that is different, its important to tell people, let the truth be told that this person has changed the narrative. Before the first tenure of Mr president ends no judge of the FCT High court will be living in a rented quarter.”
