The Lagos State Government has completed the installation of the final Ductile Cast Iron pipe in the ongoing Adiyan II Water Project.
Tokunbo Wahab, the state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the development in a post on X on Saturday.
He described it as a major milestone in the project.
The Adiyan II Water Project, according to the state government, is expected to deliver about 70 million gallons of potable water daily when completed.
It forms part of ongoing efforts to expand water supply infrastructure across the state and address the long-standing challenge of inadequate access to safe water.
Wahab’s post read, “Good news from our water infrastructure front! The last DCI pipe (pipe no. 944) has been successfully installed yesterday (24th of October, 2025), a major milestone in the ongoing Adiyan II Water Project.
“The 8km transmission pipeline has now reached Akute, bringing us closer to delivering additional 70 million gallons of potable water per day to Lagos residents once completed.
“Step by step, we are rebuilding and expanding Lagos’ water supply network to meet the needs of our growing population.”
In a similar update shared in September, the commissioner outlined that pipe laying had reached 98 per cent completion, with ongoing efforts focused on addressing minor contingencies to ensure efficiency and adherence to the project timeline.
He disclosed that the project, when completed, would significantly improve access to clean and safe water, reaffirming Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure under the THEMES+ agenda.
He added that, “The work at Adiyan Water Works Phase II Project is going on steadily as scheduled with the pipe laying at 98% completion. While there are some contingencies to smoothen out, the hard work continues to be done and in accordance to the project timeline with maximum efficiency.
“This project, a 320,000³/day water treatment plant, when completed, will supply over 70millions gallons of water to homes within the Lagos metropolis.
“In no time, houses across Lagos will have pipe borne water flowing yet again. This reaffirms the @jidesanwoolu-led administration’s commitment to ensuring supply of portable water to homes in Lagos State in line with the THEMES+ Agenda.”
The Adiyan II Water Project, located between Lagos and Ogun states, has been under development for more than a decade.
