In a shocking news which reached the desk of CEOAFRICA.com from Zambia, it was gathered that former member of the country’s parliament has died after being allegedly axed by unknown people over land issue.
Sources disclosed that Barnabas Chella, 60, was Wusakile Member of the Parliament, and he met his untimely death when he was allegedly axed in the early hours of Thursday at his Niza farm in Kitwe’s Wusakile Township.
Confirming the incident, Copperbelt acting police chief, Joyce Kasosa and Yassy Chella, the deceased brother, shared their sides of the story separately. Mr Chela said his brother was beaten by more than 80 squatters who had allegedly encroached on his farm.
According to him, the alleged squatters stormed the former MP’s farm, armed with axes and slashers as they started beating him while in the process, one of them axed him on the head. The assailants, as further explained, claimed that the land belongs to anyone and that the victim had no right of being there.
“The squatters approached my brother and informed him that it was not his land and after he asked the squatters to leave his premises, they started beating him before one of them axed him on the head,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mrs Kasosa confirmed the arrest of two people suspected to be among the squatters as they are helping the police in their investigations. She then assured that investigations are ongoing and more suspects would soon be arrested.
