The immediate past president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Benin, Pharm. (Prof.) Cyril Odianose Usifoh, FPSN, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Chief Ogbuefi Clement Nwagbogbu Ilobanafor, Esesuo Agbara I of Oze̱gu, who passed away at the age of 93.
In a heartfelt message to Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, MD/CEO of CEOAFRICA and son of the late traditional leader, Prof. Usifoh described the late Ogbuefi Ilobanafor as “a compelling testament to discipline, integrity, communal leadership, and an unwavering devotion to the well-being of his people.”
He further noted that, “In an era where true patriarchy is fading, he embodied the qualities of a custodian of culture and a stabilizing force whose wisdom shaped not only his household but the larger community.”
Reflecting on the enduring influence of the late Ogbuefi, Prof. Usifoh said, “Beyond his years, Chief Ogbuefi Ilobanafor’s legacy is profoundly reflected in the values you exemplify—intellect, diligence, forthrightness, and an uncommon commitment to service. Indeed, great trees are known by the strength of their branches, and your life and work mirror the depth of his nurturing.”
Acknowledging the sorrow of loss while highlighting gratitude for a life well-lived, Prof. Usifoh prayed for strength for the family, saying, “May the Almighty grant you and your family the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss, the grace to find peace in his remarkable journey, and the comfort that comes from knowing that he now rests in eternal serenity.”
He concluded by assuring the Ilobanafor family of his prayers, adding, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
Chief Ogbuefi Clement Nwagbogbu Ilobanafor’s passing marks the end of an era for Oze̱gu, but his legacy continues to inspire both his family and the community he so faithfully served.
