Suspected political thugs have attacked the office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State, the hometown of former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
According to reports, the assailants opened fire sporadically in the community and set the party secretariat ablaze. The incident occurred on Thursday night, ahead of Amaechi’s scheduled visit to Ubima on Friday to formally register with the ADC at the ward level.
Residents said the attackers returned the following morning, establishing a roadblock on the Omuawa–Ubima Road and preventing vehicles bearing ADC banners from entering the community.
Security operatives were mobilised to the area, and their intervention reportedly restored calm and normalcy.
Amaechi, a key leader of the ADC, has been active in positioning the party as a contender against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. The attack has heightened concerns over political violence in the state ahead of upcoming party activities.
