Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, is convening an urgent meeting with the country’s service chiefs at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, amid rising concerns over national security.
The high-level meeting comes as military bases in the North-East have faced a series of attacks in recent days. Reports indicate that three Nigerian Army Commanding Officers, all holding the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, were recently killed in Borno State by suspected terrorist groups.
Attending the meeting are the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass. Key security agencies, including the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), are also represented.
The discussions are expected to focus on strategies to address the escalating security threats across the country.
