A man was taken into custody on Wednesday after allegedly driving a van into security gates outside the White House in Washington, DC, authorities said.

According to the United States Secret Service, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. when the vehicle struck a gate located on the northern side of the presidential residence.

Officers from the Secret Service’s Uniformed Division responded swiftly to the scene and arrested the driver. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity, and officials said he is currently being questioned while criminal charges are being prepared.

No injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

As a precaution, a bomb squad was deployed to examine the vehicle. After conducting an inspection, officials confirmed that the van did not pose an explosive threat.

Following the incident, security personnel secured the area surrounding the White House and temporarily closed several nearby streets while authorities carried out safety checks.

The crash occurred as Washington remains under heightened security amid tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

Wednesday’s incident is the latest in a series of vehicle-related crashes involving security barriers near the White House in recent years, despite restrictions introduced to limit vehicle access around the historic complex.
