Several passengers sustained injuries on Monday morning following an incident involving a train operating on the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor, forcing the service to halt temporarily.
The passenger train, travelling from Kaduna to Abuja, was unable to complete its scheduled journey after the disruption occurred along the busy rail line connecting the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.
A source within the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the development but declined to provide further details, stating that he was not authorized to speak on the matter.
Passengers on board described the incident as sudden, saying a loud bang was heard before the train jolted abruptly to a stop, causing panic inside the coaches. Eyewitness accounts indicated that the impact threw some passengers from their seats, resulting in confusion throughout the train compartments.
According to reports from passengers, the Abuja-bound train may have been involved in a collision along the corridor, prompting a temporary suspension of rail operations while authorities assessed the situation.
Several passengers reportedly sustained injuries, including cuts and bruises, after being thrown against seats and metal fixtures inside the train.
A passenger who shared his experience on social media shortly after disembarking described the moment as frightening, noting that the train remained stationary for approximately 30 minutes before resuming its journey slowly toward Kubwa, a suburb on the outskirts of Abuja.
When contacted, NRC spokesperson Callistus Unyimadu confirmed the incident and said an official statement would be issued.
Further details are expected as investigations continue.
