The Federal Government of Nigeria has fulfilled its housing pledge to the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket championship.

In August 2025, D’Tigress secured a landmark fifth consecutive continental title, becoming the first team to achieve the feat. The team defeated Mali 78–64 in the final held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, cementing their dominance in African women’s basketball.

Following their return to Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour on every member of the squad in recognition of their achievement.

In addition to the honours, the government pledged a cash reward of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to members of the technical crew. Each player and official was also promised a flat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the housing pledge has now been fulfilled, stating that players have received their housing allocation documents as well as certificates of their national awards. According to the commission, the documents were presented to the team in Lyon, France, where D’Tigress are currently competing in the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko said the $100,000 cash reward is in the final stage of processing and will soon be credited to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

The development marks the completion of one of the government’s key commitments made in celebration of the team’s historic continental success.
