A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said that political actors who played key roles in the emergence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 could support the party’s efforts to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on *Arise News Morning Show*, Momodu described the group as a formidable bloc capable of influencing electoral outcomes if properly mobilised by the ADC.

He identified members of the bloc to include former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal, all of whom he noted are currently associated with the ADC.

According to Momodu, the ADC already has experienced presidential contenders and should focus on strategic planning rather than starting anew.

“To win an election is not just about popularity or rhetoric, but about strategy,” he said, urging the party to revisit the political approach that led to Buhari’s victory in 2015.

He described President Tinubu as a formidable opponent, stressing that unseating him would require a broad coalition and careful political alignment.

Momodu also expressed his preference for Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s presidential candidate, citing his experience and regional appeal. He argued that selecting a candidate from the North-East could strengthen the party’s chances in the next election cycle.

Drawing a parallel with U.S. politics, he referenced political developments involving Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump to highlight the complexities of electoral contests.

Momodu further claimed that some individuals who contributed to Tinubu’s rise to power are now dissatisfied and may be open to aligning with the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged the party to capitalise on such discontent and build a strong alliance capable of mounting a credible challenge in the next presidential race.
