Several people are feared dead and many others injured following a tragic road accident involving a runaway trailer in Ibadan, sparking panic across one of the city’s busiest commercial areas.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Beere axis, where the trailer, reportedly descending from the Beere Roundabout, lost control after a suspected brake failure.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck had earlier passed through the Oja’Oba Market before spiralling out of control at Beere Junction, ramming into vehicles, tricycles, and pedestrians along the route.
The most severe impact was recorded at the crowded Iso-Osan Market, popularly known as Orange Market, where the trailer caused extensive destruction and multiple casualties.
Although the exact number of fatalities remains unconfirmed, initial reports indicate that at least three persons have been confirmed dead, with fears that the death toll could rise as rescue operations continue.
Several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited in a morgue.
Security agencies, including the police and other emergency responders, were promptly deployed to the scene to manage the situation and restore order as large crowds gathered in the aftermath of the incident.
