Former Vice President and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the recent attack on Gari Ya Waye community in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing it as a “barbaric assault” and evidence of Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, Atiku reacted to the Sunday night attack, which reportedly left several residents dead and many others injured.

The former vice president expressed deep outrage over the incident, stating that the persistent wave of violence across the country points to a near-total collapse of governance.

“I am outraged by the barbaric attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which claimed the lives of scores of innocent Nigerians and left many others injured,” he said.

He further described the incident, which occurred on Sunday, March 29, 2026, as a “damning indictment” of the nation’s security architecture.

“What we are witnessing is not merely a security lapse, but a tragic descent into lawlessness where human lives are treated as expendable,” Atiku added.

The ADC chieftain criticized what he termed repeated official pronouncements without concrete action, noting that insecurity remains a daily reality for many Nigerians.

“Despite endless pronouncements and so-called marching orders, insecurity remains the grim, daily reality of ordinary Nigerians who continue to bear the brunt of a failing system. It is long past the time for outrage without action,” he stated.

He called for urgent and decisive political will to address the situation, warning against the normalization of violence.

“The anger across the land must now compel urgent, decisive political will to confront and crush this menace. The continued slaughter of innocent citizens cannot become our new normal,” he said.

Atiku also extended his condolences to the victims’ families, describing the incident as a dark and painful moment for the country.
