President Bola Tinubu has condemned the recent attacks by gunmen in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing the incidents as “barbaric and unacceptable.”

The attacks took place in Angwan Rukuba district, Jos, and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area, where several people were reportedly killed and others abducted, including wedding guests.

In a statement on Tuesday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that those responsible would be held accountable. He said, “Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward. By attacking soft targets in Jos, their objective is not only to cause harm but also trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks and further bloodletting.”

The President directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and curb the spread of misinformation that could escalate tensions. He also cautioned media outlets against framing the attacks as religiously motivated.

Tinubu called for proactive measures, urging security agencies to act on early warning intelligence and ensure the immediate rescue of all remaining abductees from Kahir village.

He commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for their roles in managing the crises and supporting rescue operations. “I assure the people and governments of the two states of my support,” he added.

Expressing condolences to the families of the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security operations nationwide. He said, “Our government is currently acquiring more sophisticated equipment to enable our security agencies to track and smash criminals, in real time, wherever they are.”
