At least three persons have been feared dead, with one other injured, following a fresh attack by unidentified gunmen on Nyamgo Gyel in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, further heightening concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the region.

The victims—Luka Sandu Pam (36), Samuel Davou (38), and Deme Saidu (35)—were reportedly ambushed while returning home from Gero on a motorcycle. Eyewitnesses said the victims were part of a group of about 15 youths travelling back from a mining site when they ran into the attackers.

According to Channels Television, the assailants opened fire suddenly, causing panic as members of the group fled for safety.

Confirming the incident, Gyel Youth Leader, Dung Davou, said the attack was swift and unexpected.

“We started hearing sporadic gunshots, and everyone scattered. Unfortunately, three of our people were killed,” he said.

He called on security agencies and government authorities to urgently intervene, citing what he described as recurring and unprovoked attacks on the community.

The latest incident comes amid a spate of violence in Plateau State. CEOAFRICA recalls that no fewer than 10 persons were killed and several others injured when heavily armed gunmen attacked Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area last Sunday, underscoring the fragile security situation in the state.
