The Obidient Movement Worldwide has raised alarm over an alleged plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine the presidential ambition of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The National Coordinator of the group, Yunusa Tanko, made the allegation during a press conference in Kano on Saturday, claiming that there are coordinated efforts to deny Obi a viable political platform for the January 2027 presidential poll.
Tanko alleged that the moves involve “orchestrated crisis and institutional interference,” which he said began shortly after the 2023 general elections. He further accused the APC of fueling internal disputes within the Labour Party as part of a broader strategy to weaken Obi’s political base.
According to him, despite a Supreme Court of Nigeria ruling on the party’s leadership in April 2025, subsequent actions by lower courts appeared to contradict and undermine that judgment.
The group noted that Obi eventually exited the Labour Party on December 31, 2025, following prolonged internal crises, and later aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
It further claimed that Obi’s involvement in the ADC, as well as his political engagements with figures such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, contributed to heightened political tensions.
The movement also linked recent developments—including the reported delisting of ADC leadership following an Appeal Court ruling—to what it described as a broader attempt to weaken opposition forces.
“The trend is a blatant scheme to undermine democracy, impose a one-party system, and deny Nigerians credible choices,” the group stated.
The Obidient Movement called on key stakeholders, including electoral authorities and the judiciary, to uphold democratic principles and ensure a level playing field for all candidates.
It warned that any attempt to sideline opposition figures could erode public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process, urging citizens—particularly youths and women—to remain vigilant and actively engaged ahead of the 2027 elections.
