The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, has died in a hospital in Egypt, where he had been receiving medical treatment for an undisclosed illness.
He passed away on Monday night following a period of ill health, according to sources close to the Kebbi State Government. Details surrounding the nature of his illness have not yet been made public.
Zuru, who represented Zuru Constituency, was widely regarded as an experienced legislator and a prominent figure in the state’s legislative arm.
Reacting to the development, the Governor’s aide on Communication and Strategy, Idris Zuru, described the news as a profound shock.
“The death of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation,” he said.
He added that further information would be released in due course, noting that the government is still gathering details surrounding the circumstances of his death. He also stated that official funeral arrangements would be announced in consultation with the family.
Additional announcements regarding burial plans are expected from both the state government and the deceased’s family.
