The Federal Government has formally issued Letters of Credence to three ambassadors-designate, authorising them to represent Nigeria in key diplomatic missions abroad.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, presented the documents on Tuesday on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the occasion as a significant step in advancing Nigeria’s foreign relations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the minister said the presentation was made on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing honour in carrying out the diplomatic responsibility.
The envoys who received the Letters of Credence are Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, designated to the United Kingdom; Ambassador Ayodele Oke, designated to France; and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, designated as Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu explained that Letters of Credence are formal instruments issued by a Head of State to introduce and accredit ambassadors or high commissioners to foreign governments. She noted that the documents empower the envoys to act on behalf of their country and request the host nations to accord them official recognition and trust.
She congratulated the ambassadors-designate and wished them a successful tenure in service to the nation.
The presentation is part of a broader diplomatic deployment following President Tinubu’s approval of 65 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners to various countries and multilateral institutions, including the United Nations.
According to the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the list comprises 31 non-career and 34 career diplomats. All nominees were confirmed by the Senate in December 2025 after undergoing screening by the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also commenced an induction programme for the envoys, who are expected to assume duty upon receiving agrément from their respective host countries.
