Former Senate President David Mark on Wednesday sought to calm rising concerns over internal disputes within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), assuring party members and the public that the disagreements do not threaten the party’s survival.

Mark, who also serves as the ADC’s national chairman, made the remarks during a church service celebrating his 78th birthday. His comments come amid lingering disagreements and competing claims within the party, which have raised questions about its readiness for the 2027 elections.

“On the issue of the ongoing developments within our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), I wish to assure our members and Nigerians at large that there is no cause for alarm,” Mark said, characterizing the tensions as a normal stage of growth rather than a sign of fragmentation.

“Challenges are a natural part of any growing institution. What is important is our collective resolve to overcome them,” he added.

Despite the internal tensions, Mark emphasized that the ADC’s foundation remains firm, with leaders and members united in pursuit of the party’s broader objectives. “We remain united, determined, and focused on strengthening the party and upholding democratic values,” he said.

Linking the party’s stability to the broader democratic system in Nigeria, Mark reiterated the ADC’s commitment to national development and democratic governance. “We are fully committed to the survival of democracy and the development of our dear nation, Nigeria,” he stated.

He further pledged that the party would continue to work diligently to ensure that democratic institutions deliver tangible benefits to citizens. “We will continue to work tirelessly, guided by discipline, integrity, and patriotism, to ensure that our democratic institutions are preserved and that the dividends of democracy reach all our people,” Mark said.

Reflecting on his milestone birthday, Mark expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his dedication to national service. “At 78, my resolve remains unshaken. I am inspired more than ever to contribute my quota to national unity, peace, and progress,” he concluded.
