Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has alleged that his former deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, attempted to remove him from office and assume leadership of the state.

The governor made the remarks while receiving a group of praise singers, known as Mawallafan Abba Gida Gida, at the Government House in Kano.

Abdussalam, also known as Gwarzo, resigned from his position amid moves by the Kano State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against him. The lawmakers subsequently discontinued the process following his resignation.

Speaking during the event, Yusuf said he had neither received nor seen Abdussalam’s resignation letter, maintaining that his administration had done nothing to justify the deputy governor’s decision to step down.

“Today, the deputy governor who was elected alongside us is no longer part of this government. No one wronged him. In fact, I have not even come across his resignation letter, so why should I be concerned about it?” the governor said.

Yusuf further alleged that Abdussalam’s actions were motivated by an attempt to unseat him and take over the governorship, adding that the effort did not succeed.

“Whatever pushed him to act in that manner was an effort to depose me and occupy the seat, but it did not succeed,” he stated.

The governor also raised concerns about the treatment of his former deputy within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, questioning why Abdussalam was not given the political opportunity he was reportedly seeking.

“The deputy governor who left in hopes of getting that ticket—what was his offence? Why wasn’t he given the chance? Isn’t that unfair to him?” Yusuf asked.
