The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State has allocated 60 percent of its leadership positions to supporters of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, following a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at restructuring the party’s leadership.
State Chairman Musa Ungogo confirmed the arrangement, stating that Kwankwaso’s bloc would take the majority share, while the remaining 40 percent would be distributed among existing party members and recently joined groups.
Ungogo noted that no specific position had been reserved for former Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna, but explained that Gawuna is now aligned with Kwankwaso and would be accommodated within his faction.
He added that the 40 percent allocation would be shared among members drawn from various political backgrounds, including the Labour Party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and individuals previously unaffiliated with any political group.
According to Ungogo, the leadership positions emerging from the congress would be determined by consensus, emphasizing that all stakeholders were satisfied with the agreed formula.
“One thing you can take home is that every group and every member is happy about the sharing formula. Secondly, all positions from this congress will be decided by consensus. There will be nothing to regret,” he said.
Ungogo further stated that the ADC is experiencing growing popularity in Kano, attracting new members from across the political spectrum, including the ruling party and the PDP, as well as previously inactive political actors.
He described Kwankwaso’s defection to the ADC as a significant boost to the party’s prospects, commending both state and national leaders for driving its recent expansion in Kano State.
