A tragic incident has claimed the life of a resident and left another missing following an attack by a wild elephant in Innayin community, located in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State.

According to sources, the attack occurred on Thursday, resulting in the death of Ibrahim Tijani, who reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during the encounter with the animal. Another resident, identified as Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, is currently missing after being attacked by the same elephant.

The remains of the deceased have been evacuated to a nearby health facility for necessary procedures.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.

He explained that upon receiving a distress call, police operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, promptly mobilized to the scene. Tijani’s body was discovered in a nearby bush with injuries consistent with an animal attack and was subsequently taken to the General Hospital, Iwere-Ile, for examination and preservation.

Ayanlade further disclosed that search efforts are ongoing to locate the missing man, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, who was reportedly attacked during the same incident.

He reassured residents of Innayin and surrounding communities that the situation is under control, adding that measures are being implemented to prevent further harm.

Residents have been advised to steer clear of the affected area and to promptly report any sighting of the elephant to security agencies.
