A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has called on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to align with the party as part of efforts to strengthen opposition unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Galadima said several opposition figures were already gravitating toward the NDC in a bid to build a cohesive and formidable platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He expressed concerns that the current administration might deploy legal mechanisms to weaken opposition activities, underscoring the urgency for opposition groups to consolidate under a single political platform.

Galadima further cautioned that failure by Atiku to join the NDC could undermine ongoing efforts to unify the opposition, noting that the responsibility for achieving such unity would ultimately depend on the decisions of key political actors.

He, however, acknowledged that the choice to join the party remains solely that of the former vice-president.
