Oyo State Government has ordered the reopening of schools in Oriire Local Government Area and neighbouring councils from Monday following the deployment of additional security operatives to the affected communities.

The affected local government areas include Oriire, Oyo East, Surulere and Olorunsogo.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran.

According to the statement, the reopening followed a comprehensive security review conducted after the recent security incident in the Ahoro-Esinele community.

Adeniran said the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, had strengthened surveillance and protection across the affected areas to guarantee the safety of pupils, teachers and other school personnel.

He explained that security operatives working under the directives of the Commissioner of Police had intensified security measures around schools and communities within the axis.

“The safety of our pupils and teachers remains a top priority of the government. With the enhanced security arrangements now in place, academic activities can safely resume without fear,” he said.

The OYOSUBEB chairman urged parents and guardians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, assuring residents that the government would continue to monitor developments closely in partnership with local authorities and community stakeholders.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the protection of every child within the school system and promised that timely updates would be provided when necessary.

Schools in the affected local government areas are expected to resume academic activities on Monday, May 18, 2026.
