Desmond Elliot, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency, Lagos State, Nigeria in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has alleged intimidation, coercion, and the withdrawal of his security personnel ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) direct primaries in the constituency.
In a video posted on his X account, Elliot claimed that some party members and supporters linked to him had been targeted for their political alignment. He also alleged that individuals were being pressured and threatened with exclusion from empowerment opportunities if they failed to support a preferred aspirant.
According to him, some local government workers were also allegedly dismissed due to their association with his political camp. He further claimed that local government authorities had openly aligned with another aspirant ahead of the primaries.
Elliot also raised concerns over his personal security, stating that his security aides were withdrawn without explanation, leaving him without protection.
He warned against attempts to disrupt the electoral process, alleging that there were plans to introduce external actors to cause unrest during the primaries scheduled for May 20, 2026.
The lawmaker called on party leadership to ensure a free, fair, and transparent process, and urged his supporters not to be intimidated.
The allegations come amid internal preparations within the All Progressives Congress ahead of its direct primaries in Surulere. Party officials have yet to publicly respond to the claims.
