A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread outrage after a Nigerian police officer, identified as Newton Isokpehi, threatened to kill any citizen who attempts to record him while carrying out his official duties.

In the viral footage, Isokpehi, who claimed to have spent 26 years in the Nigeria Police Force, issued a series of violent threats directed at members of the public as well as senior officers allegedly encouraging citizens to film police personnel while on duty.

Speaking in the video posted on a TikTok account bearing the name “Newton Isokpehi for Life,” the officer warned that anyone who records him while armed could face deadly consequences.

“Any day I’m on duty as a police officer, carrying my rifle and doing my job, let somebody come and video me,” he said. “The number of you that I kill, he will be the one to bury all of you.”

He further threatened to “clear everybody down” if confronted by individuals filming him during operations.

The officer also directed harsh remarks at unnamed superior officers whom he accused of authorising the public to record police personnel.

“That police officer who gave the order for people to video policemen on duty, I will deal with you all harshly,” he stated in the video.

During the emotional outburst, Isokpehi displayed scars and what he described as gunshot wounds on his arm, claiming they reflected the difficult conditions faced by many officers in the line of duty.

“You think I was born like this? This is a gunshot wound,” he said. “My whole body is covered with bullet wounds and gunshot scars. Yet I’m still suffering.”

He also acknowledged efforts by the current Inspector General of Police to address unpaid insurance claims and death benefits owed to officers and their families.

The video has since generated strong reactions from Nigerians online, with many calling for disciplinary action against the officer and demanding a psychological evaluation over the nature of his comments.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement regarding the viral video.
