President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged members of the Nigerian judiciary to uphold fairness and expedite the delivery of justice, warning that any weakness in the legal system could undermine the nation's democracy.

Tinubu made the appeal on Monday during the inauguration of the newly completed Court of Appeal Abuja Division complex in Dakibiyu, Abuja. The event was attended on his behalf by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

According to a statement shared on the Vice President’s official platform, the President expressed concern over delays in judicial processes and the increasing frustration among Nigerians caused by prolonged litigation and mounting case backlogs.

He stressed the need for a justice system that is accessible, impartial, and efficient, noting that public trust in the judiciary depends on its ability to deliver timely and equitable judgments.

Addressing the justices, Tinubu said, “As you move into this new complex, the nation expects one thing from you: justice that is swift, fair, and free from bias. It must not be influenced by status, ethnicity, or wealth. Every Nigerian should feel confident that this court remains a true source of hope.”

The President also described the newly commissioned Court of Appeal complex as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to strengthening the justice sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that providing modern and conducive facilities for judicial officers is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Nigeria’s judicial system.
