The Nigeria Police Force has finalized security arrangements for the Ekiti State governorship election, deploying personnel and operational assets across all 2,545 polling units ahead of Saturday’s poll.

Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, announced on Friday that a robust security framework had been established to ensure a peaceful, free and credible election.

According to him, officers have been strategically stationed at polling units and other designated locations throughout the state to guarantee the safety of voters, election officials, observers and electoral materials during the exercise.

Abayomi said the security operation extends beyond polling centres to include critical infrastructure, major highways, entry and exit routes, border communities and other strategic locations considered vital to the electoral process.

He explained that the deployment is aimed at maintaining law and order, preventing disruptions and creating a secure environment for all participants in the election.

The police commissioner also disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, had directed all officers assigned to election duties to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, neutrality and strict adherence to the law.

He warned that anyone found engaging in electoral malpractice or any act capable of undermining the credibility of the election would face sanctions in accordance with the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.

Abayomi urged residents and eligible voters to conduct themselves peacefully and exercise their democratic rights without fear of harassment or intimidation. He also cautioned against the circulation of false or unverified information that could threaten public order.

To ensure prompt response to security incidents, the police have activated a dedicated election emergency line, 080062335577, which will remain operational throughout the election period.

A total of 13 political parties are expected to participate in the Ekiti governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
