The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, in connection with the murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, announced the arrests on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

According to Ojajuni, the breakthrough came after intensive intelligence gathering, forensic investigations, and technical tracking operations carried out by detectives probing the double homicide.

Oyesiku and Adetayo were found dead at the retired broadcaster’s residence in Owode-Egba on June 21. Her Lexus RX 330 SUV was also reported missing from the premises.

The police commissioner said officers received a report at about 4 p.m. on June 21 regarding suspicious circumstances at the residence. Preliminary findings showed signs of forced entry, while the security post within the compound was locked.

Responding detectives discovered Adetayo’s body inside the security house, while Oyesiku was found lying in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.

Investigators processed the crime scene and established that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 had been stolen, raising suspicions of robbery and murder. The vehicle was later recovered on June 22 through intelligence-led operations and technical tracking.

Ojajuni disclosed that a handwritten note found at the crime scene became a major lead in the investigation. Forensic examination of the note provided valuable clues that helped detectives identify and trace the suspects.

Although the suspects had removed the vehicle’s ignition key and detached its registration plates, investigators recovered one of the plates hidden beneath a seat, confirming the vehicle belonged to Oyesiku.

Further intelligence gathering led to the arrest of the principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he worked as a labourer.

Subsequent operations resulted in the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

The police commissioner said Philip confessed to participating in the crime and admitted recruiting the other two suspects.

During interrogation, Philip allegedly told investigators that he planned the attack because of grievances dating back to the period he worked as a security guard for Oyesiku. He reportedly stated that the murder was intended to “teach her a lesson.”

Police investigations revealed that the suspects first overpowered Adetayo and used him to gain access to the residence before attacking Oyesiku. They later killed the security guard and fled with the victim’s vehicle.

The stolen SUV was eventually recovered in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.

Ojajuni also disclosed that detectives recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other items believed to be relevant to the investigation.

He noted that despite the confessional statements and evidence recovered, investigations remain ongoing to strengthen the case and ensure diligent prosecution.

The police commissioner assured residents that the command remains committed to securing justice for the victims and bringing all those connected to the killings to account.
