The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has signalled its willingness to join coalition discussions with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that any alliance formed would ultimately support its candidates.

The party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, made this known during an appearance on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television.

“As an opposition leader, we will be open. Our party, the NDC, will be open to conversations within that space,” Dickson said.

The former Bayelsa State governor stressed that it would be premature to speculate on the outcome of such discussions, noting that negotiations among opposition groups are yet to fully commence. He, however, expressed optimism that any eventual coalition arrangement would favour the NDC.

Dickson, who currently represents Bayelsa West in the Senate, said the party was not laying claim to superiority over others, adding that a new phase of engagement would begin after political parties conclude their nomination processes.

The NDC’s coalition overture comes amid legal challenges surrounding its registration. Recently, a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, set aside an earlier judgment that had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the party.
