The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, in the sum of ₦2 billion as he prepares to face trial over alleged money laundering offences.

Delivering the ruling on Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo admitted Bodejo to bail with two sureties in like sum. The court ordered that one of the sureties must be a resident of Abuja and provide a three-year tax clearance certificate, while the second surety must own landed property within the Federal Capital Territory valued at no less than ₦2 billion.

As part of the bail conditions, the court directed Bodejo to surrender his international passport to the court registrar and prohibited him from travelling outside Nigeria without prior approval of the court.

Justice Ekwo held that the offences against the defendant were bailable and noted that the court had the discretion to grant bail under the law.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter to October 5, 6 and 7, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

Bodejo has remained in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since July 9, following his arraignment on charges bordering on alleged money laundering.

The EFCC, represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Wahab Shittu, filed the charges on June 24 and submitted them to the court on June 25, naming Bodejo as the sole defendant.

When the charges were read during his arraignment, Bodejo pleaded not guilty to all counts. The prosecution thereafter requested a trial date and asked the court to remand him pending trial.

His counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN), informed the court that a bail application, dated and filed on June 30, was already before the court. Raji argued that the alleged offences were bailable under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and urged the court to exercise its discretion in favour of his client.

The EFCC opposed the application, with Shittu urging the court to decline the request.

After considering the submissions of both parties, Justice Ekwo granted Bodejo bail subject to the conditions set by the court, paving the way for his release once the bail requirements are met.
