Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, once stated that he had no interest in serving in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that he would rather remain at home than accept any appointment under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayose made the remark on October 15, 2025, during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, where he dismissed speculation about joining the Tinubu administration.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain disclosed that President Tinubu had personally asked what position he would like to hold, but he turned down the offer, insisting that he had no desire to return to public office after completing two terms as governor of Ekiti State.

"Have you seen me taking an appointment from the APC? Asiwaju asked me, 'What would we give you?' I said, 'Nothing, sir.'

"At 65, I'd rather be at home, being more responsible, doing other things that I need to do.

"I've served well. Two-time governor, I've done well. Tomorrow will hold itself," Fayose had said.

He also clarified that while he maintained a cordial personal relationship with Tinubu, it did not amount to political loyalty or membership of the APC.

"I've not been with APC, but I've been Asiwaju's friend and brother for a long time. That is the truth," he said.

Fayose further explained that his comments on national issues were motivated by his convictions and not by any expectation of political appointments or personal benefits.

However, despite his earlier position, President Tinubu on Monday appointed Fayose as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Fayose's appointment was among 26 new appointments to the boards of 10 federal government agencies and commissions.

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced 26 new appointments to 10 federal government agencies and commissions, with the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, emerging as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency," the statement read.

The Presidency said all the appointments take immediate effect.

Fayose's appointment marks a notable shift from his earlier public declaration and is expected to spark fresh political debate over his evolving relationship with President Tinubu and the APC-led Federal Government.
