Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to establish a state-owned commercial airline to provide employment opportunities for indigenes who have successfully completed professional pilot training.

The governor disclosed the initiative during the 40th Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House in Kano, where he received several awards, including a special recognition from the Kano State Pilot Association for his commitment to supporting the training and development of indigenous pilots.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to Governor Yusuf, the proposed **Kano Airline** is expected to commence operations within the next year. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing the financial and institutional support required to establish the airline and ensure its long-term success.

The governor said the project is designed not only to strengthen Kano's presence in Nigeria's aviation industry but also to create career opportunities for the state's pool of professionally trained pilots.

Yusuf also expressed satisfaction with the performance of Kano-sponsored pilots who underwent aviation training in Jordan under a programme initiated by a previous administration, describing their achievements as a testament to the state's investment in human capital development.

Earlier, Chairman of the Kano State Pilot Association, Naziru Ibrahim, praised the governor for his unwavering support, particularly in facilitating the revalidation of members' flying licences.

He, however, appealed for further government assistance to enable the pilots obtain their final professional certifications, a key requirement for operating commercial flights both within Nigeria and on international routes.

The planned launch of Kano Airline is expected to boost employment, expand the state's aviation capacity, and contribute to economic growth through increased investment in the air transport sector.
