Christian leaders and pastors under the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State have endorsed the candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Engr. Akeem Olatunji, for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was made at the Oluyole Local Government Secretariat during a special prayer session organised by the Oluyole chapter of CAN to seek divine intervention for lasting peace and security in Oyo State.

The Christian leaders said their decision was influenced by what they described as Olatunji’s impressive performance as a local government administrator, as well as his support for Christian organisations and community development initiatives across Oluyole.

Speaking at the gathering, the Chairman of CAN in Oluyole, Rev. Michael Paulson, urged Christians to take an active role in the political process, stressing that meaningful participation was necessary for the emergence of responsible and accountable leaders.

Paulson called on Christians in the local government to support Olatunji and other APM candidates in the forthcoming elections.

He said, “Christians should not abandon the political space to others. Active participation will enable us to contribute to the emergence of leaders committed to peace, good governance, accountability and development.”

The CAN chairman described Olatunji as a “God-chosen vessel” for Oluyole, expressing confidence that his experience, humility, accessibility and close relationship with the people would enable him to provide effective representation at the National Assembly.

He also commended the APM candidate for his consistent support for CAN and the Christian community in Oluyole.

Responding, Olatunji expressed appreciation to the Christian leaders for their prayers, endorsement and confidence in his political ambition.

He pledged to work closely with the Christian community, other faith-based organisations and relevant stakeholders to advance the development and welfare of residents of Oluyole Federal Constituency if elected.

The APM candidate promised to discharge the responsibilities of the office with integrity, transparency and accountability, assuring constituents that their interests would remain at the centre of his legislative agenda.

Olatunji further pledged his support for the renovation of the CAN chapel and promised to assist with the completion of the association’s new secretariat currently under construction in Oluyole.

The gathering also featured prayers for lasting peace and security across Oyo State, with Olatunji calling for sustained cooperation among religious, traditional and political leaders in addressing the challenges confronting the state.
