The incident occurred on Friday while the worshippers were observing the Jumu’at prayer, according to residents familiar with the attack.
The assailants, said to have arrived in large numbers, reportedly opened fire sporadically before entering the mosque and ordering some of the worshippers out.
They were subsequently marched into a nearby forest, sources said.
