Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has alleged that fighting terrorism in Nigeria has now become a costly industry, with trillions of naira spent while citizens’ lives remain endangered.

Featuring in an interview on News Central Television, Ezekwesili said poor governance and weak accountability have serious consequences for people living with insecurity.

She added that joking with the lives of citizens sends a signal to the enemies that the government does not care about its people.

Speaking on state police, the former minister said that if the country had good governance, clarity of mandates would be observed.

“Fighting terrorism is now an industry from which people who have the levers of power, starting from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to the military establishment, are benefiting.

“They need to be telling Nigerians what the performance is from the kind of trillions of naira that has been allegedly used to fight insecurity in the country. The results point to the fact of poor governance,” she said.
