A three-storey building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation by emergency response agencies.

Operatives of the FCT Fire Service are currently at the scene, while three ambulances have been deployed to provide emergency medical support.

The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident, saying it received a distress call concerning the building collapse.

Other agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Security Service Department and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), have also joined the search and rescue operation.

The FCTA Development Control Department had previously sealed the building and ordered its occupants to vacate the premises.

The police said preliminary investigations showed that the structure had earlier been marked and sealed by the Department of Development Control, Abuja.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualties have been confirmed. Rescue personnel are, however, continuing their search through the rubble to determine whether anyone is trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
