Stakeholders, professional colleagues and thought leaders across Nigeria’s healthcare sector have celebrated Pharm. Anthony Bola Oyawole on the occasion of his birthday, honouring more than four decades of dedicated service, professional advocacy and contributions to pharmaceutical practice and health system development.
The celebration brought together members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), its various technical groups, the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) and other stakeholders who recognised Oyawole’s longstanding contributions to medicine security, regulatory compliance, healthcare policy and professional development.
Throughout his career, Oyawole has combined pharmaceutical practice with regulatory engagement, institutional leadership and public health advocacy, earning recognition from colleagues for his commitment to professional ethics, healthcare governance and the advancement of the pharmaceutical sector.
In their goodwill messages, stakeholders commended his consistency, integrity and dedication to strengthening healthcare delivery and promoting medicine security in Nigeria.
The National Chairman of the ACPN, Pharm. Ambrose Igwekamma Ezeh, joined other professional leaders in celebrating the milestone, describing Oyawole as a health visionary whose leadership has made significant contributions to primary healthcare and pharmaceutical practice in Nigeria.
Ezeh noted that Oyawole’s commitment to healthcare ethics, institutional governance and health-sector reform continues to inspire practitioners across the country, while wishing him many more years of good health, productive service and impactful leadership.
Other professional colleagues also highlighted Oyawole’s contributions to pharmaceutical regulation and health-sector development, particularly his advocacy for stronger professional standards, improved regulatory compliance, local pharmaceutical production and a more robust private healthcare sector.
They also recalled his efforts to promote greater professional consciousness among pharmacists, encouraging practitioners to embrace accountability, effective leadership and improved patient-centred care.
Beyond his professional engagements, close associates described Oyawole as a compassionate and caring individual whose firm professional disposition is complemented by a warm and generous personality.
A graduate of the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Oyawole currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Board Associates Limited and Treasurer of the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy.
His contributions to pharmaceutical practice and public health have earned him several professional distinctions, including Fellowship of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (FPSN), Fellowship of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (FPCPharm) and Fellowship of the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy (FNAPharm).
Over the years, Oyawole has held several strategic positions within the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. He served as Chairman of the PSN Lagos State Branch from 2005 to 2008 and has also served as a Trustee of the PSN and ACPN Lagos State branches.
His regulatory experience includes membership of the Governing Council of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), while he has continued to serve as a volunteer pharmaceutical inspector with the council since 2005.
Between 2012 and 2015, he chaired the PSN National Strategy Committee, where he contributed to the development of long-term strategic frameworks for the pharmaceutical profession.
Earlier in his career, Oyawole served as National Publicity Secretary of the ACPN from 1997 to 2000, Vice President of the Healthcare Providers Association of Nigeria (HCPAN), and PSN Desk Officer to the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN).
At the Lagos State level, he served as an executive board member of the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board from 2008 to 2011. During his tenure, he contributed to the development of the policy framework for the Sustainable Drug Revolving Fund (SDRF) scheme and advocated for the integration of qualified pharmacy personnel into Lagos State’s primary healthcare centres.
With more than four decades of professional engagement spanning pharmaceutical practice, regulation, policy advocacy, institutional leadership and healthcare development, Oyawole’s birthday celebration provided an opportunity for colleagues and stakeholders to acknowledge his longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector and public health system.
