Rotimi Amaechi, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that he would withdraw from the party’s 2027 presidential ticket and campaign for President Bola Tinubu if petrol sells for N600 per litre.
Amaechi made the declaration on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he questioned the Federal Government’s claim that falling fuel prices would translate into lower transportation fares and reduced living costs.
He challenged the government to demonstrate the impact of its policies, particularly on commuters travelling between Nyanya and Abuja.
“Every day he repeats the same thing. He said by October 1, the price of transport would come down. Check the cost of transport from Nyanya to Abuja; has anything come down? Has anything changed?” Amaechi asked.
The former Rivers State governor said he was prepared to publicly demonstrate his commitment to the pledge if petrol prices dropped to the stated level.
“If fuel has come down to N600 tomorrow, I will campaign for President Tinubu. If you doubt, come with your camera to my house in the morning. I will go to the filling station and buy fuel,” he said.
Amaechi reiterated that he would abandon his position as the running mate to ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and throw his support behind Tinubu if petrol reached N600 per litre.
“If it comes down to N600, I, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, will withdraw as the Vice Presidential candidate of Atiku and campaign for President Tinubu,” he added.
