The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, accused of impersonating the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday following an application by the Federal Government seeking to discontinue the trial at the court, pending Adeyemi’s fresh arraignment before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Moving the application, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, said the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had reviewed the case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police and discovered some legal shortcomings.

Oyedepo explained that the documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi in the course of operating the purported agency were matters within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

He informed the court that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court, where the defendant would be arraigned afresh without delay.

The prosecution subsequently urged Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge in line with the law.

Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application.

Consequently, the judge granted the request and struck out the charge, paving the way for the defendant’s fresh arraignment before the appropriate court.

Adeyemi, 38, was being tried alongside two other defendants identified as Femi and Anu, whose surnames were not disclosed. The two co-defendants were said to be at large.

The defendants were accused of offences bordering on conspiracy and forgery.

The case was filed at the Federal High Court under charge number FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation.
