The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejigged its presidential campaign council for the 2027 general election, appointing Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke; and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo as campaign coordinators for their respective states and territories.
The revised list is expected to be inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
Under the new arrangement, Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will coordinate the APC’s campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, while Soludo, who secured a second term in November 2025 on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will oversee the party’s campaign in Anambra State.
Adeleke, who won re-election on August 16 under the Accord Party, has been named campaign coordinator for Osun State.
The inclusion of the three politicians stands out in the expanded council, given their different party affiliations.
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, was appointed Deputy National Coordinator I for Stakeholders’ Mobilisation in the South-West.
The latest appointments follow the initial list released by the APC on August 22, which named former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General of the campaign council.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were initially appointed deputy director-generals.
In the revised structure, Akpabio, Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq have been named Deputy Vice-Chairmen I, II and III, respectively. Buni has also been designated Deputy Director-General I for the North.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who previously held the position of Deputy Director-General III for the North, has been moved to Deputy Director-General II for the region.
Similarly, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu have been appointed Deputy Director-Generals I and II for the South, respectively.
Another significant change is the appointment of all 32 APC governors as campaign coordinators for their respective states, highlighting the party’s emphasis on grassroots mobilisation and state-level campaign coordination ahead of the election.
In Oyo State, the party’s governorship candidate, Sharafadeen Alli, has been appointed campaign coordinator. Mohammed Abubakar, the APC governorship candidate in Bauchi State, will coordinate the campaign in the state, while the party’s Abia State flagbearer, Chijioke Chukwu, has been named coordinator for Abia.
The expanded council also includes 14 advisers drawn from the party’s leadership and other political circles. They include Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, former Cross River South Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore and former Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, among others.
The changes come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) opened campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections on August 19, with campaigning scheduled to end on January 14, 2027, according to its revised timetable.
Tinubu is expected to face opposition from prominent political figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi, the flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as political parties position themselves for the forthcoming presidential contest.
