Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is worried about the growing popularity of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso made the claim on Thursday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the NDC’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.

“Peter Obi is popular in the South, and we are mobilising our people in the North. Even the President is concerned about the person of our presidential candidate, and he has been having sleepless nights because of him,” he said.

The former Kano State governor argued that Tinubu could not guarantee victory on his own and would need considerable support from state governors to strengthen his chances at the polls.

Kwankwaso expressed optimism about the NDC’s electoral prospects, saying members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and Nigerians seeking political change were aligning with the party to build a strong opposition coalition.

He maintained that the growing support for the party would strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NDC vice-presidential candidate further alleged that political opponents were exploring ways to manipulate the electoral process, but insisted that public support for the opposition continued to increase despite such concerns.
