47 AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO ADOPT DIGITAL TV BY 2015.

African nations, 47 of them have successfully put efforts and machinery in place by having digital television in their territory.

 

International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Regional Radio Communication

Conference (RRC-06) adopted the dead line in 2006, African nations to switch to digital television for UHF users, June 2015 is set for deadline while June 2020 is set for VHF in 33 African Countries.

 

This landmark step also makes Africa the first region in the World to be in a

Position in 2015 to allocate bandwidth freed up by the transition to digital

television to the mobile Service for both the 700 MHZ and 800 MHZ bands.

 

World Radio Communication Conference 2012 (WRC-12) to facilitate availability of the digital dividend to the Mobile Service will Start Operation after some technical

refinements immediately after the next world Radio Communication Conference in 2015.(WRC-15)

 

Secretary General of ITU, Hamadoun Toure showed his appreciation on the  high level of Cooperation extended to the Process by African Telecommunications Union (ATU) and its Secretary-General, Abdoukarim Soumaila.

 

Director of ITU's Radio Communication Bureau, Mr.Francois Rancy, announced that Sub-Saharan African Countries have begun submitting official modifications to the GE06 plan following the final freguency coordination meeting held in Nairobi, July 17,2013 and the deadline of August 31 set for  notifications.
