From Zimbabwe, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that President Robert Mugabe has announced the appointment of 26 members for his cabinet.

While addressing journalists in Harare, Msheck Siyanda, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet said, “I am glad we now have a government of Zimbabwe following the harmonized elections. The Cabinet has been reduced from 33 under the government of national unity to 26 ministers."

Since July 31st , when the election was held, there was no functional cabinet in Zimbabwe.

According to sources, the new Cabinet retains the Ministry of Indigenisation, the policy of seizing the majority stake of foreign owned firms and giving them to black Zimbabweans. Critics of the policy have said it mainly benefits a few elites.

The list included Jonathan Moyo, who returns as the Information and Broadcasting Service Minister, and Patrick Chinamasa who was the Justice Minister at the last regime, now becomes Finance Minister replacing Tendai Biti, who was from the MDC party under the 2009-2013 coalition government.

Robert Mugabe defeated main rival and former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai of the MDC party. He has been in power since the country’s independence in 1980.
