THE Federal Government has donated various food items and relief materials to the victims of drought that ravaged Namibia in 2013 and 2014.

Head of Chancery, Nigeria High Commission in Namibia, Mr Dayo Adeoye, in a statement in Abuja, on Monday, said tbe food items and relief materials, which consist of 300 metric tonnes of rice, 700 metric tonnes of maize and three metric tonnes of fish fillets and powder, were produced locally in Nigeria.

While presenting the materials to the government of the Republic of Namibia, in Windhoek, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, said the donation was based on the recommendation of the Nigeria High Commission in Windhoek, Namibia, which drew the attention of the Federal Government to the drought that ravaged Namibia in 2013/2014, leading to the death of people and livestock, due to unavailability of food.

Dr Adesina, who was represented by the Nigeria High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia, Dr Biodun Olorunfemi, expressed Nigeria’s solidarity with the people of Namibia on the occurence of the “unpreventable natural disaster” in the country.

According to him, “our hearts go out to all who have suffered or have lost loved ones in this terrible disaster.

“Nigerians stand united with the people of Namibia who have shown such incredible resistance in surmounting the challenges posed by the drought,” he said.
